Blair County, PA — According to borough officials, Duncansville has been dry since 1935. “Whenever I started this process, people were surprised because they thought there was liquor in Duncansville.” says borough councilmember, Anette Lewis.
Both retail beer and liquor are restricted from the borough, with the exception of wholesale malt beverage distributors and fine wine / good spirits stores. Lewis and some other officials say they believe would improve the economy.
“I'm not looking for a bar. I’m looking more for a business that's going to attract people to come in, have dinner, lunch or whatever. That kind of thing. Anything to bring business to Duncansville.”
Lewis says a bike trail is going to be built running through the center of Duncansville. The addition of liquor licensed stores Lewis says would be able to give bikers more options.
One local resident says it should be up to the business, not government entities. “I feel that if a business wants to have a liquor license, they should be able to do it, not like have a limit on it, or whatever." she says.
Other residents tell me off camera they would like to leave liquor business out of Duncansville. They say they don't want it to cause other unwanted problems. Ultimately, tomorrow is the day when votes will determine if that drought ends in Duncansville. Polls open at 7 AM and close at 8 PM.
